Conscious Artful Pursuit
Sisters Mradu Singh and Shruti Singh founded Milan with their refreshingly directional, sustainable and deeply personal approach to creating effective and functional clothing.
Instinctively, we are drawn to beautiful and artistic things. It comes from our mother who has always had an eye for handlooms and innate love for woven cottons and silks from various states in India, and has been creating or picking most exquisite pieces of handmade finery. Milan is our endeavour to introduce the timeless beauty of our handloom to the world and to bring our handmade fabrics to the forefront for its sustainable practices and beautiful intricacy.
Mradu Singh: Having always loved styling and dressing up, since I can remember, fashion to me is an extension of one’s individuality and aesthetic choices. I am fascinated by new cultures, unprecedented storytelling, poetry, art, cinema and authenticity. The magic of nostalgia and the history behind is what I am drawn to most. That is what comes across in my personal styling. A mix of classic and contemporary, modern approach yet rooted in the choice of fabric and tailoring.
All of our learnings and upbringing, at some level, embodied us with some sort of holistic way of navigating this planet. Since I began my journey of making conscious and sustainable choices in clothing, I have been buying with more apprehension of the lifecycle of garment, the use of fabric material, the possibilities of re-wearing and re-styling my pick. I refrain from buying stuff for the sake of ever changing fashion trends and also clothes only fit for specific occasion. Milan, for us, speaks volumes of the same values of consciousness, rootedness and functionality.
