Handcrafted locally with responsibility
Grow local, make local
Mindful utilisation of materials have always been a part of our civilisation. Our mothers and grand parents never bought vegetables in plastic bags. Daliya/baskets or jhola/coth bags were always carried and fruits/vegetables were bought from local vendors. Grains were sold in open, in place of sealed plastic. Barter system allowed us to buy grains in exchange of used clothes.
These exercises were rather organic. As the oldest and the most revered of our scriptures Shree Bhagawat Geeta reads;
सहयज्ञाः प्रजाः सृष्ट्वा पुरोवाच प्रजापतिः ।
अनेन प्रसविष्यध्वं एष वोऽस्त्वष्टकामधुक् ॥ 3.10
Insight 1: Sustainability requires that we need to play within the rules in our pursuits of material progress and enjoyment.
We don’t need to re-invent the wheel when it comes to sustainability, its just following the leads of cultures that have actually embodied it. We simply have enough stories of that specific needs and specific contexts in our own households and in our own societies. Interestingly, climate, eco-anxiety and caring about this planet isn’t something we are being taught, especially in our rooted societies, but its intrinsically part of what makes us and who we are. All of our learnings and upbringing, at some level, embodied us with some sort of holistic way of navigating this planet.
The terms like Swaraj and Swadeshi were coined in the pre-independence era by our greats like Mahatma Gandhi that facilitate the idea of self dependence within our country, within our society, our globe and ourselves.
